Issue #35: The Opportunity We’ve Been Building Toward

A personal update, the vision for our licensing program, and the launch of Discovery Day—our one-day live event.

Editor’s Note

We’re Back—And We’re Building Something Bigger.
Since my last issue in mid-July, I’ve been heads down—family vacation, my oldest daughter getting engaged, a lot of miles delivering LED trucks, finishing four new LED truck builds, the 50-Mile March (a nonprofit supporting veterans that I’m heavily involved with), and laying the groundwork for something I’ve been talking about for a long time.

Today I’m back in the saddle and pulling back the curtain on where this is headed: the vision behind our Total360 Local Model licensing program and the official launch of Discovery Day, our one-day live event for serious operators who want to know whether an MDB business is right for them—and, if so, a proven path forward.

Since day one of this industry, the process of buying an LED truck has been incomplete and, to a large degree, broken. As many of you know, I lost $100,000 on my first LED truck.

Even today, there’s virtually no practical, unbiased information—outside of what I’ve published—that helps a potential buyer understand the truck itself, the operating models, and the realities of actually running an MDB business.

For most first-time buyers, you’re taking a huge gamble by committing $100,000–$250,000 to a truck while not knowing which questions matter, buying into a business with no operating blueprints, and trying to “build the plane while it’s taking off.” It’s no wonder so many well-intentioned operators feel stuck and tap out within 24 months.

In my book, How to Start a Mobile Digital Billboard Business Without Losing $100K, I talk about the Four Cornerstones of Success required to build a profitable, scalable MDB business.
First: a high-quality LED truck—reliable, professional, and not plagued by breakdowns or screen failures in the first five years.
Second: an operating model that’s profitable, predictable, and scalable—and built on MRR (monthly recurring revenue).
Third: a sales system that consistently and predictably feeds that MRR.
Fourth: a salesperson/team who can actually sell media.

Remove any one of these and your risk skyrockets.

For years I’ve worked to help new operators avoid the pitfalls that cost me hundreds of thousands in cash and millions in missed revenue. But until December 2024, I did what most owners do—I guarded my best strategies and tactics for my own billboard business.

So where is this going? When we made the strategic decision to transition from being both a mobile billboard company and an LED truck manufacturer to focusing solely on manufacturing, it freed me to stop holding back and serve operators at the highest level.

With that said, I’m excited to give you—my newsletter subscribers—the first shot at our inaugural Discovery Day. This in-person event is modeled after a franchise discovery day: if you’re serious about starting an MDB business, come to Omaha and learn what it really takes to own and operate one—the kind of information you won’t find on Google. You’ll also get a full tour of a brand-new Legion 714 LED truck, see how it operates, and experience firsthand the quality differences between a Legion build and the rest of the industry.

My goal is that by day’s end, you’ll know whether this business is for you. If it isn’t, this event could literally save you hundreds of thousands of dollars and a mountain of stress. If it is, you’ll leave with a high-quality truck option, a detailed start-up plan, and a level of community support this industry has never had.

Up front: this is a paid event. One of the hardest-earned lessons in my entrepreneurial journey is simple—when you pay, you pay attention. We have limited seats and production capacity, so we’re looking for the most serious operators and biggest action-takers who want to build a legacy company. If you get through the truck demo and feel the day was a waste, I’ll refund you—no questions asked. But if you catch the vision for where this industry is headed and decide you’re ready to get started, we’ll apply 100% of your ticket price toward the irresistible offer I’m preparing for you.

If you’re truly serious about starting an MDB business, attending this live event is a no-brainer. Having something like this in 2014 would have saved me hundreds of thousands. On the flip side, the information we’ll share can be the difference between a business that struggles to reach $100K/year and one that crosses $1,000,000/year in the first couple of years. You decide.
