Issue # 45: I Built a $6M Business Nobody Searching Could Find—So I'm Building the Tool to Fix It
The competitive analysis I ran on my own business revealed I was losing to competitors with worse services, better SEO—so I'm building Wend to level the field.
Editors Note

I've watched businesses with worse products, weaker reputations, and zero operational innovation dominate entire industries — not because they were better, but because they understood one thing earlier: visibility beats quality when quality is invisible. I learned this the hard way with Mr. Car Shipper, and what I found when I finally looked at the gap between our product and our discoverability changed how I think about building every business I touch. Let's get into it.

M.D.B. Startup Focus
I built a $6 million business that almost nobody searching for it could find.
For years, Mr. Car Shipper has run on referrals and partnerships. We built what I believe is the best car shipping experience in the country—no-COD escrow payments, company-owned cargo insurance, written price guarantees, live GPS tracking. We fixed every structural failure that makes this industry predatory. Our customers love us. We earned 4.6 stars on Google across 250 reviews, 4.87 stars on BBB, 5.0 on TransportReviews. 550+ verified reviews, nearly all of them glowing.
And when the moving industry dropped 25% this year, I realized we had a serious vulnerability: we were invisible to everyone searching.
So I did what any business owner would do when they're worried. I used AI to do deep research on the industry, our competitors, and industry search patterns and had it write me a comprehensive report. Where do we show up when someone searches "best car shipping companies"? How do we rank against the top 10 national brokers?
The report came back with a line I won't forget: "Mr. Car Shipper has a top-tier product and a genuinely strong reputation—held back from national recognition almost entirely by one thing: it is absent from the editorial 'best of' lists that drive consumer discovery."
We weren't on U.S. News. We weren't on Move.org, FreightWaves, Cars.com, Car Talk, or ConsumerAffairs. We had the product. We had the reputation. But we weren't where the lists were made. We were a top-3 product wearing a top-30 presence.
That's when I realized this wasn't just a Mr. Car Shipper problem. It's the problem most quality businesses face: you built something real, your customers love it, but the people searching don't know you exist because you're not on the shortlist.
The $6,000-Per-Month Reality Check
I reached out to three of the best SEO agencies in the industry. Every quote came back between $4,000 and $6,000 per month. Twelve-month minimum commitments. No guarantees. And—this is the part that stuck with me—no real clarity on what I'd actually get for that money beyond "content strategy" and "link building" and "technical optimization."
I've spent enough money on consulting to know what that means: I'd be paying someone else to learn my business, write generic content that sounds like everyone else, and hope it moves the needle six months from now.
I couldn't justify it. Not because I don't believe in SEO—I do—but because I couldn't see what I was buying or control any part of it.
So I decided to build it myself.
What Wend Actually Is
I researched what the big SEO tools do well, what their customers complain about, and what features they're missing. I looked at SEMrush, Ahrefs, Hootsuite, Sprout Social—the platforms that cost $100–$500/month and still require you to be a marketing expert to use them effectively.
Then I built Wend to do what those tools don't: make someone who knows their business but doesn't know marketing look like they hired a full-time content team.
Here's what it actually does:
It generates industry-specific content that doesn't sound like a robot wrote it. You tell Wend what your business does, what problems you solve, and what questions your customers actually ask. It writes blog posts, social captions, email sequences, and FAQ content in your voice—not in the generic, jargon-filled tone that every other AI tool spits out. It understands context. It understands industry nuance. It writes like someone who actually runs the business.
It finds the ranking opportunities you're missing. Wend analyzes what your competitors are ranking for, what keywords are driving traffic in your industry, and what content gaps exist that you could own. Then it tells you exactly what to create and why. No guessing. No "maybe this will work." It shows you the path from where you are to where you need to be.
It manages everything in one place. Write a blog post in Wend, and it can turn that into six social posts, an email, and a series of Google Business Profile updates. You're not logging into five different tools. You're not copying and pasting between platforms. You create once, and Wend handles distribution.
It's built for people who don't have time to be content marketers. You're not spending hours researching keywords or staring at a blank screen wondering what to write. You answer a few questions, Wend generates the content, you approve it, and it goes live. Fifteen minutes instead of three hours.
The back end is powerful—it's competing with tools that cost $300/month and require certifications to use. The front end is simple—it's built for the business owner who just wants the work done without becoming an SEO expert.
Why I'm Building This in Public
I could have quietly built Wend, tested it on my own sites for six months, and launched it when I had proof. That's the smart move. That's what every SaaS founder is supposed to do.
But I'm not building this as a SaaS founder. I'm building it as a business owner who has the same problem you probably do: I built something great, and I need people to find it.
So I'm using Wend on my own businesses first—Mr. Car Shipper, Legion LED Trucks, and Wend's own site—and I'm inviting other business owners to join the beta while I'm still building it.
Here's what that means:
You're not buying a finished product. You're helping shape it. If there's a feature you need, I'll build it. If something doesn't work the way you expected, I'll fix it. If you hate the interface, I'll change it. You get early access, a lower price than what it'll cost once it's public, and a direct line to me while I'm building.
What I'm looking for: business owners who have built something real, who know their customers care about what they do, but who are tired of being invisible online. People who don't want to hire a $5,000/month agency but who are willing to spend 15-30 minutes a day using a tool that does most of the work for them.
What you get: early access to Wend, lifetime pricing at the beta rate (you'll never pay more, even when the public price goes up), and the ability to request features that matter to your business. You're not just a customer—you're helping me build a world class software that solves a real world problem.
The Part I Can't Prove Yet
I can't show you a case study. I can't show you six months of traffic growth on my own sites. I can't give you a testimonial from someone who used Wend and doubled their lead volume.
I'm launching the beta this month. I'm running it on my own sites at the same time you'd be running it on yours. We'll see what works, what doesn't, and what needs to change—together.
If you need proof before you commit, I respect that. Come back in 90 days and I'll have it. But if you're the kind of business owner who sees the problem clearly—you built something better than what's ranking ahead of you, and you're tired of waiting for someone to notice—then you're exactly who I built this for.
What "Top-Tier Product, Top-30 Presence" Actually Means
Here's what I learned from that competitive analysis: we built a premium product that commands premium pricing. Our customers pay significantly more than they would with the volume leaders in this industry—and they do it willingly. They rate us highly, and they come back.
That's not luck. That's not marketing. That's a product people value.
But we're still a small player in a market that moves millions of cars a year. Not because our product isn't good enough. Not because our customers don't trust us. Because the people searching for what we offer don't know we exist.
If you're reading this and thinking, "That's me—I built something great and no one can find it"—you're right. That's the problem. And it's fixable.
You don't need to spend $6,000 a month. You don't need to hire a content team. You don't need to become an SEO expert. You need a tool that does the work for you, built by someone who has the same problem you do and is solving it for themselves first.
That's Wend.
If you want in on the beta, go to wend.marketing and join the waitlist. I'll send you an invite as soon as the next round of beta users opens up. If you want to wait until I have proof, I respect that—come back in 90 days and I'll show you what happened.
But if you're done being invisible, let's fix it together.
